The world's biggest arts festival, Edinburgh Fringe 2018, is right around the corner. Theatre editor Daniel Perks catches up with cabaret performer Hans, who is bringing Like A German to Assembly Rooms this year:

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018 is officially less than one week away. For its 71st year, the world’s biggest arts festival descends upon the Scottish capital, bringing with it a series of productions that innovate, imagine and leap into the unknown. Fringe veterans and first timers share stage space, flyer side by side and plaster their posters all over the city to try and entice us in to witness their moments of magic.

Here at Miro Magazine, we are incredibly excited by the biggest offering that Edinburgh has ever seen. Throughout the festival, we will be profiling some of the shows playing this year, as well as reviewing, listing and round up every performance. This is our way of getting to know the theatre companies and performers that are hoping to sell out and share their success.

Next up in our Spotlight feature is Like A German, which plays at Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 2 – 19 August 2018. We caught up with performer Hans:

Describe Like A German in three words.

‘Your biggest dream!!!’

Is this your first Edinburgh Fringe performance experience?

‘No. I came to Edinburgh first in 2016 and just did some spots in variety shows and then did my first show in Edinburgh last year.’

Who else are you most looking forward to seeing while in Edinburgh?

Briefs! Michael Griffiths! The Bugle Boys and Fringe Wives Club!’

Who are your inspirations?

‘Oh darlings, let me be honest… I’m really just in it for the money! Call me fickle! There’s just SO much of it for artists at Fringe time.’

What is your secret to surviving the intense, fast pace of the fringe?

‘Don’t party too hard!! Last year I met Emma Thompson after a show and it broke my heart to say I couldn’t go out drinking with her.’

What are the future plans for Like A German?

‘I go where ever the wind takes me… But I think probably taking over Celine’s Vegas residency is on the cards.’

What is the best production you’ve seen in the last 12 months?

‘I saw Fringe Wives Club at the Adelaide Fringe earlier this year and thought they were amazing! Very very clever and well-constructed piece of cabaret.’

Is there anything else you want to highlight about Like A German?

‘There’s too much in the world that’s heavy at the moment, so my show is just about having FUN! Lots of fabulous pop songs, lot’s of glitter and feathers, a LIVE band and a piano accordion… What more could you want?!?’
