The Olivier Awards 2018 were announced in a live ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall this evening.

Hosted by Catherine Tate, the ceremony featured performances from such icons as Chita Rivera, who along with Andy Karl and Adam J. Bernard paid a 60th anniversary celebration to West Side Story; past stars of the hit show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat – Jason DonovanLinzi Hateley and Joe McElderry  to celebrate its 50th anniversary; and the casts of Hamilton, Follies, 42nd StreetEverybody’s Talking About Jamie and Girl From The North Country.

The raft of celebrity awards presenters included Alfred MolinaMel GiedroycSergei PoluninMeera SyalPatti LuPone, Sharon D. ClarkeRonan KeatingBeverley Knight and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The Olivier Awards 2018 were dominated by Hamilton – nominated for a record-breaking 13 awards, it walked away with a record-meeting seven (joint with Matilda The Musical), including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Giles Terera) and Outstanding Achievement in Music (for Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alex Lacamoire). Out of the plays, it was The Ferryman that came out on top, with three wins from eight nominations – Best New Play, Best Actress in a Play (Laura Donnelly) and Best Director (Sam Mendes).

The other notable story of the evening was the #TimesUp movement. A number of stars wore badges in support of this initiative, as well as in support of the ERA 50:50 campaign.
